Amulet of Readiness
Rarity: Extraordinary
While wearing this amulet, the user adds a +1 result bonus to his or her side’s Initiative rolls. (This bonus stacks with other effects that grant a bonus to Initiative rolls, including Spells, Talents, and other Legendary items.)
Blade of Anguished Memories
Rarity: Rare
This weapon may come as a short sword, arming sword, or long sword (e.g., Arming Sword of Anguished Memories).
When the bearer of this weapon makes a Melee Skill roll against an opponent that has already been wounded (lost 1 or more Wound) by this weapon before, the bearer gains a +1D bonus to the Melee Skill roll. This bonus only applies once per Melee Skill roll (thus the max benefit is +1D) and applies if the opponent has ever been wounded by the weapon before (even if in the distant past and/or by a different wielder).
Coin of Two Fates
Rarity: Extraordinary
This legendary object looks like an otherwise normal (if ancient) bronze coin. It has distinctive sides (heads and tails), with strange symbols and undecipherable writing that hint at some long forgotten time.
The bearer of this coin may use it in an attempt to decide between two courses of action. To do so, the bearer must use a Full Action and declare which side of the coin (heads or tails) represents which course of action, then flip the coin and observe its result.
The bearer may choose to take either side of the decision, but any action that the user makes that the gamemaster rules is in direct pursuit of fulfilling the decision that the coin laded on benefits from a +1D bonus. Conversely, any action that the user makes that the gamemaster rules is in direct opposition to fulfilling the decision that the coin laded on suffers from a -1D penalty.
| Example: Bertoz bears the Coin of Two Fates and declares that he will flip the coin to decide between “Going to Polos” (heads) or “Going to Saldor” (tails).
He slips the coin and the coin lands tails. He now benefits from a +1D bonus to all rolls he makes that directly pursue going to Saldor and a -1D penalty to all rolls he makes that directly pursue going to Polos. |
After being flipped in this way, the coin’s magic persists (continuing to grant the bonus and penalty, as applied above). During this time, the coin cannot be used to alter the benefits or for a new magical toss to decide between two courses of action. After being flipped, the coin’s magic persists until one or the other course of action is fulfilled, the user of the coin dies, the user and the coin are separated (the user is not within arm’s reach of the coin for more than 1 hour), or until the seventh sunrise after the coin is flipped for its magical purpose (whichever comes first).
Lantern of Falsehoods
Rarity: Extraordinary
When this common-looking lantern is lit, the bearer may imagine a different form for his or her own shadow to take. The bearer’s own shadow is altered such that it resembles the imagined form.
| Example: Aldric bears the Lantern of Falsehoods and lights it, imagining his shadow to look like that of a giant dire wolf. While lit, the lantern functions normally, but observers see Aldric’s shadow like that of a giant dire wolf.
If Ardric moves himself and lantern the right way, he can cast his shadow in different directions on different surfaces, even as he moves. |
The effect persists until the lantern is extinguished, until the end of the scene in which it is lit, until the bearer relinquishes grasp of the lantern, or the lantern runs out of fuel (whichever comes first). Thus, in order to change the shape of the bearer’s shadow, the bearer must extinguish the lantern and relight it with a new image in mind.
The lantern uses common lantern oil (holding up to one pint) and can burn up to 4 hours continuously without being refilled.
